Odisha Staff Selection Commission Conducts the Welfare Extension Officer Examination. OSSC WEO Exam has FOUR stages. First the candidates are shortlisted by Prelim exam. The main exam conducted for 300 marks. Then viva voce test conducted for 30 marks and lastly career assessment. The details syllabus for the OSSC WEO Prelim and Main Exam is given below

OSSC WEO Exam Pattern :

1- Prelim : 100 Marks : 1:30 Hour

2- Main written examination – 300 marks
(a) General English- 1 & 1/2 hours duration-100 marks (Descriptive)
(b) Odia Language- 1 & 1/2 hours duration-100 marks (Descriptive)
(c) General Studies – 1 & 1/2 hours duration- 100 marks-(OMR system) (No negative mark for wrong answer)

3- Viva voce mark-Preliminary Examination : 30 Marks
4 – Career Assessment : 30 marks
Total -360 marks

OSSC WEO Syllabus :

1-Preliminary Examination Syllabus

  • The Commission will decide to conduct preliminary examination depending on the number of candidates)
  • There will be 0.25 negative mark for each wrong answer in the Preliminary Examination.
    The preliminary examination will be of 100 marks on General Awareness with multiple choices of answers. The question will cover different fields of knowledge such as General Science, Current events, Socio economic and Political situation, History. Geography etc.
  • The answer scripts will be in OMR form. There will be negative marking @ of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer. This examination will be a screening test, qualifying in nature, to short list candidates for main written examination.
  • Candidates about 20 times of the number of vacancies in each category shall be called for appearing the main written examination.

2. Main written examination
General English:-It is descriptive in nature. The questions will include comprehension, precis writing, usages & vocabulary. short essay writing and grammar.

Odia Language- It is descriptive in nature. The questions will include letter writing, application writing, report writing, usages & vocabulary, retranslation from English to Odia and grammar.

General Studies- The question shall be of objective type of 100 questions with multiple choice of answers. The candidate has to answer in OMR sheet. The questions will cover the fields of knowledge on World & Indian Geography with special reference to Geography of Odisha, Indian polity & economy ,Human Rights, IT, General Science, Reasoning, Numerical ability, Arithmetic(HSC standard). There will be no negative mark for wrong answer.

Career Assessment-

There shall be a career assessment of academic career from HSC to Degree level for 30 marks. The career assessment of the candidates numbering 5 times of the vacancies (category-wise) will be made on the basis of performance in the main written examination.
The career assessment will be made on the basis of percentage of marks with two digits decimal secured by the candidates in HSC, +2 and Degree exam.

  • Degree exam.
  • HSC- 10 marks
  • +2 – 10 marks
  • Degree-10 marks

The fraction of decimal marks will be rounded upto one digit. For example:- If one secures 75.56 % , it will be treated as 75.6 marks. Similarly, if a candidate secures 75.44, it will be treated as 75.4. He/she will get 7.56 marks & 7.54 marks respectively out of 10. Further, the total number of marks under career assessment i.e HSC+(+2)+Degree will be rounded to one decimal point.

Viva Voce test :

The viva voce mark may be of 30 marks. Candidates numbering up to 3 times the number of vacancies (Category-wise) on the basis of performance in the written examination and career assessment taken together will be called for viva voce test.
